All India Media Union

Established in 1999, AIJPA is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization representing journalists across print, electronic, and social media. It advocates for press freedom, social justice, and the welfare of journalists. The association also provides humanitarian aid to journalists in need and promotes international action to defend press freedom

Various media unions have been actively advocating for press freedom and the protection of journalists. In October 2023, nine journalists' bodies petitioned President Droupadi Murmu, seeking intervention against the use of "draconian laws" against media persons. They highlighted the increasing use of such laws to seize equipment like phones and laptops, which are essential for journalists' work.

Additionally, in December 2023, several unions, including the National Alliance of Journalists (NAJ), Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ), Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), and Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation (APWJF), issued a 14-point charter of demands. They called for the release of jailed editors, dropping of criminal charges, and enactment of a law to protect journalists from persecution. They also advocated for the establishment of a Media Commission of India and the implementation of the Wage Board.
